Repair Excel file methods for different MS Office versions

MS Excel is a highly popular worksheet which allows the classification of arithmetic and textual data. This Microsoft based Office program allows a greater degree of data analysis and statistical evaluation. The accountants, marketing professionals and logistics professionals across the globe heavily depend on this file format. Unfortunately, this file format is having one dark side –that is its vulnerability to corruptions and damages. This means, a user can lose his valuable Excel data via system breakdown, malicious software attack, network breakdown, etc. We will discuss about the different options available in Excel versions to repair Excel files. These are some of the methods available in Excel versions to skin the cat:

Restore and repair Excel 2010

Sometimes we notice that things are not working in Excel as exactly the way you wanted. There is something gravely wrong with an MS Excel file as it has met a data disaster. Such challenges are tough but not impossible to overcome if one knows exactly how to use the open and repair option.

For this one needs to open the Excel file, scroll the File tab and click the Open command. Now in the Open dialog box browse and attach the corrupt Excel file to open it. If it is not opening then try the Open and Repair option. After that, click Repair on the data. If the Repair workbook option has not delivered the results then click on Extract Data.

There is also another Repair Excel 2010 option available which is the recover data from Excel Workbook option. There are again two methods in this category.

Go to the File tab, click Open. Double click the workbook to open it in Excel and select Yes to reopen the workbook. If this doesn’t work then try to save the Workbook in SYLK format which is our second method.

Repair Excel 2007

MS Office 2007 is a remarkable Office program with end number of options. The detect and repair option is available in this version to repair the Excel format itself - Office Diagnostics tool.

Go to Microsoft Office Button and select Program Options, click Resources and then Diagnose. Now select Continue and Start the Diagnostics. Exit the Diagnostics after it completes the repair operations.

Note: The Office Diagnostics can be accessed from the Microsoft Office Diagnostics option of the Microsoft Office Tools option.

There is also a run and repair feature available in MS Excel 2007: First Click Start and run the appwiz.cpl command to open the applications Wizard. Then, Click the name of Microsoft Office Edition 2007 that needs to be changed. Select the Repair option and click on Continue.

Repair Excel file by entering subkeys in the Registry Editor

If a user fails to recover an excel file with the open and repair method then he can ExtractDataFormulas of the workbook with these methods. He can locate the subkeys in the Registry Editor:

For Excel 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Office\\10.0\\Excel\\Options For Excel 2003 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Office\\11.0\\Excel\\Options For Excel 2007 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Excel\\Options

After that he can use the ExtractDataFormulas to extract data.
