A Bungalow or an Apartment

A Bungalow or an Apartment

A bungalow or an apartment is a choice that cress-crosses the minds of young or old couples, big or small families especially when prices don’t matter for the buyer; and the locality holds both the options without much price differential. For matter of brevity, we will not include those who are looking for a rented accommodation because the living conditions don’t differ much if you rent or buy a house, or an apartment. The choice again is easy when the price-gap is too much and one is left with no choice but to settle down in a particular locality in an apartment. .

Leaving celebrities apartment we studied the preferences of middle-class and working people. Surely, it is hard to decide between what is a better option— a bungalow or an apartment till we don’t go into the nitty-gritty.. Both have their merits and demerits. The rule of the thumb is that a bungalow is preferred by a large family. It provides ample secrecy; the family can move about home or abroad because some members always remain behind. That looks after security issue. In a bungalow even small time chores like mopping or dusting need extra-help. So if you really don’t mind, maids and servants moving in or out of your rooms, without disturbing your peace of mind, bungalow is fine. But there are people who are finicky to the extent that they can’t see anyone beyond their family members in the house. The choice naturally for them is an apartment that can be managed well by cleaning, mopping and dusting on our own. On the contrary in a bungalow, one needs to have an army of guards, gardeners, bell-boys, kitchen-servants and someone to look after the house when whole family has to move out of station. A lonely bungalow is always prone to burglary. In the modern context a family could mean a couple and two kids or just a couple. You hire a guard for your bungalow in Chandigarh, but your mind will always be in your house even if you are looking down from the CN tower of Toronto—security being a big issue after all. So, for small families with working couples and school-going kids an apartment will always be preferable. By locking a single door; your house and your belongings are safe. Even if you forget to lock the door, there is the building guard, who monitors everyone who enters the building. Any non-familiar face is enough to set his radar working. Similarly for old couples where neighborhood security, is a big issue, apartments are preferred. Apartments also provide a community feeling with people often meeting and greeting each other at doorways, down the stairs or in the corridors. Malfunctioning of small electrical, sanitary or water supply fixtures that go out of work are looked after by the building maintenance department. You don’t have to take time-out from a busy Board meeting to pay your electricity bills. Despite the fact that we have discussed many issue we know there could many more in the minds of the people who prefer apartments because human needs, preferences are limitless and highly individualistic.

But let us give a thought for those preferring the good old bungalow that has now metamorphosed into a structure of steel and iron with masonry visible only here and there. A bungalow is an owner’s pride. There are numbers of activities you can carry out in your yards. Gardening, making kennels, decorating the pathways and relishing the sweet smell of jasmines pouring in from your French window. A bungalow after all is a bungalow and can afford you the lifestyle of a prince. But of course all this comes at price and a maintenance cost that is enough to burn a deep-hole in a middle class pocket. The debate is endless—bungalow or an apartment; finally it really boils down to your preferences and what you can afford.
